  • 750 kW Generator

Projects / Institutional

Project info

The Kelowna International Airport is embarking on its largest infrastructure project to date with the Airport Terminal Building (ATB) Expansion project. In response to the growing demand for air travel in the region, this project aims to improve connectivity to the Okanagan Valley, improving the passenger experience and potential for economic growth.

The ATB Expansion will add 60,000 square feet (5,590 sq. m) of new space to the terminal building and 13,000 square feet (1,200 sq. m) of renovated space. These enhancements include the following items.

  • An expanded Departures Lounge aimed at improving the traveller experience
  • An expanded security screening area leveraging new technology for increased capacity and efficiency
  • Direct access to multiple gates for departing and arriving passengers
  • Improved wayfinding

The design features a number of sustainable elements including LED lighting, locally-sourced mass timber, and a geo-exchange heating and cooling system. Throughout the expansion, the airport will remain fully operational and the work will be done in phases, with Phase 1 scheduled for completion in 2026.

OUR SCOPE
Our team will be providing electrical and technology solutions, including electrical distribution, lighting, fire alarm, security, structured cabling, public address and AV systems.

An Electric Vehicle charging at the Victoria International Airport with our Sun Country EV Charger

Victoria International Airport – EV Charging Station

  • 6 level 2 charging stations
  • 600:120/208V 3Ø 75kVA transformer
  • 400 Amp panel board kiosk

Projects / Institutional

Project info

Victoria International Airport supports over 1.7 million passengers per year, and after identifying opportunities to serve those passengers better, they decided to proceed with the electric vehicle charging project. This project gives drivers a complementary quick charge when picking up passengers from the airport, modernizing the airport’s offerings and better serving their visitors.

Our team was brought in and completed the following: new kiosk feeders 3c #2AWG installed within existing ducts; installation of a new concrete pad for a new 600:120/208V 3Ø 75kVA transformer and 400 Amp panel board kiosk; a scan and x-ray of the asphalt in the proposed trenching routes to the EV chargers; installation of six Sun Country EV40 level 2 charging stations and pedestals; and seismic engineering schedules S-B & S-C for the transformer kiosk and EV chargers.

Prince Rupert Airport–Terminal Upgrade

Projects / Institutional

Project info

Prince Rupert is a key transportation hub for BC’s North Coast, serving as a vital link for land, air, and water transportation. The Prince Rupert airport, consisting of the air terminal building, maintenance building, fire hall, and runway, was built in the 1960s and early 1970s and required a significant upgrade.

Our scope consisted of fully renovating all electrical systems on the existing 20,000 square feet air terminal building. The project was completed in stages and involved completely gutting the terminal building down to the framework and rebuilding accordingly for each project phase. This included supplying and installing interior and exterior lighting fixtures, public address system, lighting controls, fire alarm, video surveillance, Canada Border Services Agency equipment infrastructure, and NAV CANADA systems infrastructure.

To overcome challenges with access to the site and materials, we utilized prefabrication to reduce our on-site footprint and ensure consistent quality of the installation. As a result, the upgraded air terminal building now provides a modern and safe facility that meets the needs of travelers to Prince Rupert and the surrounding area.

Victoria International Airport—Hold BAggage Screening Recapitalization

Projects / Institutional

Project info

The Hold Bag Screening (HBS) Recapitalization project at the Victoria International Airport consisted of modifying the existing HBS system to improve passenger safety. The changes brought the security screening up to international standards and included improved explosive detection devices and computer tomography.

Our team provided electrical construction and control cabling for all four-way sorters, spiral power curves, and bag alignment devices VFDs. We installed photo eyes on cable trays mounted above the conveyor systems and terminated them back to five different control panels. All units were linked together via Ethernet IP so the client can remotely monitor from a control room what each drive unit is doing at all times.

Nanaimo Airport Terminal Expansion Phase One Exterior

Nanaimo Airport—Terminal Expansion Phase 1

Projects / Institutional

Project info

In 2016, the Nanaimo Airport Commission Board of Directors approved a 20-year Master Development Plan for the terminal building. The first phase was a $14.2-million expansion of the Nanaimo Airport Air Terminal Building, which officially opened on February 28, 2020.

The expansion was one of the largest projects in the airport’s history. This project added 14,000 square feet of space, increasing the current footprint by approximately 60% and providing additional comfort and convenience for travelers.

The scope included a new pre-board screening area with future capacity to screen 1,000 people per hour, a departure lounge that has seating for more than 300 people, and Wi-Fi and device charging stations. The expansion of the airport also allows for the potential for new routes.

Our team provided electrical, security, structured cabling, and audio visual solutions for this project, which included electrical distribution, custom lighting and lighting controls, fire alarm, in-floor duct systems, public address, video surveillance, and access control.
